Here is some information to get you started:
Download RaceJoy from the App store and access the Vermont City Marathon.
Click I WANT TO BE TRACKED if participating as a solo individual runner or as part of a relay team. You can also track others while you are being tracked.
Click I Want to Track Someone only if you are not participating and simply wish to track someone.
Option 1: Timing Chip Tracking: Progress Alerts
Race-timed progress alerts are issued in RaceJoy as participants cross timing equipment along the course. You can receive your personal progress alerts and the alerts of others (solo runners and relay teams).
- After completing your login to RaceJoy, add the participants you wish to track to your participant list by clicking on the My Participants button on the main menu bar or the Timing button on the main menu. Participants can track themselves as well as 50 others.
- Ensure phone settings are correct. Respond to any prompts that may appear on your screen to ensure proper functioning of the app. Notifications must be on for you to receive progress updates.
- RaceJoy will automatically alert you when you and your tracked participants cross timing equipment on the course. Go to Buzz to review past alerts received.
- Relay Teams: To receive team alerts, make sure all team members are added to your participant list in RaceJoy.
Note: There is no need to carry your phone for race-timed alerts. This is based on your timing chip crossing timing equipment on the course. You simply need to run the course you signed up for and the equipment will issue alerts to RaceJoy.
Option 2: Live GPS, Phone Tracking: Solo Runners
You can also have friends and family track your position as you move along the course by carrying your phone and activating tracking in RaceJoy on race day. This option provides progress alerts at every mile in addition to the race-timed progress alerts for more continuous updates, and include performance information like your pace and estimated finish time.
Set Up
- Set Up Phone for Tracking: Upon initial set up, choose the GPS Tracking option in the Tracking Setup. OR click the PhoneTrak button from the main Vermont City Marathon page in RaceJoy. Follow the prompts.
- Ensure phone settings are correct. Respond to any prompts that may appear on your screen to ensure proper functioning of the app. Example: Location Services must be set to Always On (not “while using”) for tracking to stay connected to your phone.
- Plan to Carry Your Phone: Participants must carry their phone during the race for GPS tracking.
Race Day
- Turn Tracking On: Click the green blinking button on Race Day. Tracking is activated 30 minutes before the race start time.
- Replay Race Day in Buzz: Click Buzz to review your alerts and replay cheers!
Note: Solo, individual runners do not need to click a Start button at the Vermont City Marathon (this is typically required at other events).
Warning: Do NOT use Wi-Fi on race day. This will cause tracking to disengage.
Make sure you have a fully charged battery and turn off nonessential apps. See RaceJoy's Battery Preservation Tips.
Please let your friends and family know they will need to download RaceJoy, access Vermont City Marathon and click I Want to Track Someone. Make sure they don’t log into RaceJoy as you or RaceJoy will track their phone instead of yours. They can then click on PhoneTrak or the running feet button at the bottom of the screen to watch your blue dot move along the course.
Relay Teams: Continuous GPS Runner Tracking

Warning: Do NOT use Wi-Fi on race day. This will cause tracking to disengage.
